I'm Jerelle. Most people call me Jefe. I run Jefes Ramen out of Stockport, and I'll be straight with you from the start: I've been hungry. Not "skipped lunch" hungry. The kind where you work out what you can go without so you can eat tomorrow. So when I say a bowl of ramen can do something, I'm not reading it off a brand kit.

If you've been searching for charity food events in Greater Manchester, you've probably seen the usual stuff. Black-tie dinners. Raffles. A speech before the starters. Fair play to them. That's not us.

We put big bowls of ramen into pubs and local spots. You buy a bowl, and that bowl funds a matching meal for someone experiencing homelessness, the same night. That's Buy 1 Give 1. That's the whole idea.

Two nights are coming up on home turf.

What a charity food event should actually be

For me it's simple. The food has to be proper, the room has to be one you'd go to anyway, and the giving has to be easy to understand without a leaflet.

No guilt. No tin rattled in your face. You come out for a bowl and a pint with your mates, and the good bit is built into the price. If that's what you're after from charity dinner events in Manchester, these two are for you.

Then we head across to Salford for a December night at Leo + Roobs, a café on Garden Lane.
